The two rugby archrivals clashed in Wellington in a fast-paced, hard-hitting match. Cheslin Kolbe scored a brace of tries, while Damian Willemse earned man-of-the-match honours, keeping Springboks’ hopes of retaining the Rugby Championship alive.

What exactly happened during the match?

During a discussion with matchday referee Nika Amashukeli and All Blacks skipper Scott Barrett, Kolisi faced an interjection from Martin Swan, the New Zealand Rugby Director.

The Springboks had just been awarded a penalty after an off-the-ball tackle, and Barrett was dealing with a niggle, prompting Swan to step onto the field.

When Swan attempted to intervene, Kolisi responded respectfully but firmly:

“Sir, get off. You are not the captain. Sir, you cannot do that,” he said.

Amashukeli agreed:

“Yes, thank you.”

The exchange continued:

Amashukeli:

“Siya, control your team, please.”

Kolisi:

“I will, I promise.”

The incident highlighted Kolisi’s poise and leadership, reinforcing his reputation as a composed and respectful captain.
