Briefly News spoke to relationship expert Shelley Lewin on whether it is common for people to move on quickly after a long-term relationship, and what it says about their emotional state.
Lewin emphasised that people handle breakups differently, and there is no fixed amount of time someone should take to move on after a long-term relationship ends. However, she said that if someone quickly enters another relationship and becomes emotionally attached very fast, it could indicate that they are afraid of being alone.
She explained that the person may be seeking companionship to avoid dealing with loneliness or the pain of the previous relationship. Lewin warned that if the attachment develops mainly from a need to avoid being alone rather than genuine compatibility, the relationship may struggle over time.
"Fear of being alone and therefore jumping into a new relationship by forming quick attachment, which can be unsustainable in the long run as the relationship develops," Lewin said.
