“If you’re wondering how the surgery allows people to see again, it’s because the lens in their eyes got so cloudy that they can’t see through it,” MrBeast explained.
“So the surgeon uses a tiny vacuum to pull up the clouded lens and replace it with an artificial one. This surgery is that simple, they can see again."

The video showcases the reactions of some of the 1 000 people who received cataract-removal surgery as they see clearly for the first time. Emotional responses are captured in the clip.

He also gifted many of them with money and a brand-new Tesla for one person.

10-minute surgery

Speaking to CNN, Levenson explained that he was inspired to help people access cataract surgery after he received cataract correction surgery himself.

Levenson, who appears in the video, states that half of all blind people can regain their sight with a 10-minute surgery.

“If MrBeast can light a fire, and if we can get governmental and private support behind it, we can end half of all the blindness in the world. Without all that much cost, and with incredible gains in human productivity and human potential.

Ophthalmologist Jeff Levenson performed the surgeries with Donaldson and has run the "Gift of Sight" programme, providing free cataract surgery for uninsured, legally blind patients.

Levenson stated that half of all blindness worldwide is caused by cataracts and can be cured with a 10-minute surgery.

“Half of all blindness in the world is people who need a 10-minute surgery,” Levenson said in the video, referring to the cataract-removal surgery.

Why MrBeast gives away his money

MrBeast joined YouTube in 2012. Initially, he uploaded playthrough videos of video games and estimated the net worth of fellow YouTubers.

He became famous in January 2017 after one of his videos went viral. In the video, he counted to 100 000, which took 40 hours.

He does not give away all his money. However, he is generous and gives away much of his money. Since going viral, he has given away millions of dollars to various viewers.

Jimmy Donaldson gives away his money because, over the years, he has bagged numerous sponsorship deals. He also amasses a lot of views on his YouTube videos.

He began his donations when he started getting sponsorships from companies like Quid.
