Jihadist-hit Mali has 150,000 children in legal limbo
Nearly 150,000 children displaced by violence in jihadist-torn Mali have no birth certificates and could be denied education as a result, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) said on Monday. Of these, more than half of displaced children -- 148,600 -- "do not have state-issued birth certificates proving their legal identity," the NRC said, describing the tally as "staggering."

China reported two new deaths from Covid-19 on Monday, both elderly Beijing residents, as several major cities persisted with strict virus curbs despite a much-touted recent loosening.
