In 2022, a jury found Heard guilty of defaming the actor in a Washington Post.

After the ruling, Depp took to his Facebook to post a letter expressing his joy at the win, saying the truth had finally come to the fore.

He wrote in part:

"False, very serious and criminal allegations were levied at me via the media, which triggered an endless barrage of hateful contents, although no charges were ever brought against me."

Depp added:

"From the beginning, the goal of bringing this case was to reveal the truth, regardless of the outcome. Speaking the truth was something that I owed to my children."

He signed off the letter in Latin:

"Veritas numquam perit," (The truth never perishes.)

Donating proceed of defamation suit to charity

Depp's chosen charities focus on aiding children with life-threatening illnesses, underprivileged communities with housing, and indigenous communities with cultural preservation infrastructure.

The five organizations that will benefit from Depp's donation are the Make-A-Film Foundation, The Painted Turtle, Red Feather, Tetiaroa Society, and the Amazonia Fund Alliance.

Depp's selection of charities holds personal significance to him. He has chosen The Painted Turtle and Tetiaroa Society as a tribute to two influential figures in his life, the respective founders Paul Newman and Marlon Brando.

Granting wishes to children

Depp's involvement in a past short film with Make-A-Film Foundation has motivated him to support their work in granting wishes for children within the acting world.

Meanwhile, Red Feather and Amazonia focus on assisting indigenous communities in preserving their cultural heritage through shelters and large-scale infrastructure projects.

Throughout the legal dispute, Depp consistently maintained that his primary goal was not to acquire financial gain from his ex-wife but rather to restore his name and reputation.

Heartbroken Amber Heard

On Thursday, June 2, 2022, Briefly News reported that Heard was a sad and disappointed woman after an American jury dismissed a defamation suit she had filed against her ex-hubby.

“The disappointment I feel today is beyond words. I'm heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband." Heard said in a statement to ABC News.

She added:

"I'm even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback. It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously."
