Khanyi Magubane is perhaps best known as the presenter of the popular Sound Awake show on SAfm, but she has achieved much more than that.

The 39-year-old broadcaster, film producer, and entrepreneur boasts an impressive 18 years in the South African media industry.

She's also the founder of Zinokwanda Media and Communications. It's a Johannesburg-based agency that offers media consultancy, TV and film production, and PR/Events services.

In a video interview with Destiny Connect, Khanyi said she began her career at Talk Radio 702 soon after graduating with a BA in Communications and Honours in Journalism.

She also worked at YFM before diversifying into TV and film production, Briefly.co.za learned.

The multitalented media practitioner said it all started when a teacher identified her talent for writing and urged her to pursue it.

Khanyi said she encountered some challenges when she started her agency. These included limited finances, building confidence with prospective clients, and managing her team

She offered advice to aspiring entrepreneurs:

There's a difference between a career and being an entrepreneur. Know what you want to do when you get into any industry. Allow yourself to grow and to take on new skills and challenges.
