A 24-year-old student in Chicago, US, got a memorable Christmas gift from her elder sister — she got her college tuition fees paid in full.

Terri Patterson's financial aid could no longer cover her tuition fees at Roosevelt University. She was even considering taking the semester off to raise funds, Briefly.co.za learned.

Her sister, 27-year-old Tierra Patterson, posted a video on Twitter showing the moment she gave an emotional Terri the gift.

According to Inside Edition, Terri is studying for a degree in criminal justice. Her sister Tierra is pursuing a PhD in developmental psychology at Howard University.

In an interview, Terri said, "I want to get my degree and she has so many already. I just look up to her already and I really love her."

Twitter users around the world absolutely loved Tierra's heartwarming gesture, liking her tweet over 540,000 times and retweeting it 97,000 times.

They applauded her for being such a thoughtful and supportive big sister.
