A video showing a woman at Muizenberg beach in Cape Town has gained quite a few views on Twitter. A cameraman approaches the unknown woman as she asks "who the hell are you" repeatedly.
She pushes the camera down and the video cuts to a police van pulling up in front of her. The unmasked woman walks up to the van. The officer asks her to put on a mask and she lifts her beach towel to her face.
The woman argues with the officer for a bit before the video ends. Many South African tweeps are frustrated that the woman was not arrested or fined for being unmasked and violating lockdown regulations by being on the beach.
Take a look at the video by Esa Alexander below:
Briefly.co.za compiled a few of the responses left under the video:
@BunnyBooIV asked:
"Why is she not arrested for not wearing a mask?"
@Pololo4U said:
"Yep she must be arrested for not wearing a mask. I blame the police for this. @CyrilRamaphosa @SAPoliceService @bhekicele_rsa @alanwinde @helenzille @afriforum."
@CAPGabriels wrote:
"Just imagine what life in SA would be like if the police were half as vigilant when it comes to real crimes."
@SAPatriot5 tweeted:
"Why was she not fined? Can a case not be made against the @SAPoliceService for not applying the regulations fairly and evenly? Who is best placed to pursue this? We need to force equal treatment for all."
In other lockdown-related news, Briefly.co.za recently reported on Mzansi's reaction to Northern Cape beaches being allowed to stay open. The South African government announced that Northern Cape beaches will not be closing alongside the rest of South Africa's beaches following the updated Level 3 Covid-19 regulations that were announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
South Africans have been left baffled by the news, many of them claiming to not have even known that there were beaches in the Northern Cape area. A few of them also shared sad reactions to the news.
While a lot of people asked for pictures of the beach, others simply resorted to cracking jokes about the place.
