Actor and musician Justin Timberlake took Instagram to issue an apology for his actions in the past which affected his ex-girlfriend, Britney Spears and Janet Jackson.
“I specifically want to apologise to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually, because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed, “ Timberlake, 40, wrote on Instagram.
Almost 20 years ago he had given an interview which featured on a documentary about Spears in which he spoke about their sex life while both of them were at the height of their careers.
The documentary was very disparaging of Spears and contributed to how she was treated by the media when the couple split up in 2002.
He acknowledged the role he played in a system which was misogynistic and racist, which often objectified women.
Timberlake ended the message by saying that he wants to grow from the conversation taking place now and wants to be a part of it.
He also acknowledged that the system was set up in the past to benefit white men over others and he realised that his privileged position gave him a platform to be vocal about it.
He admitted that he was ignorant of what was happening at the time and said that he did not want to benefit at someone else's expense again.
His fans took to the comments section and praised Timberlake for publically taking responsibility for his actions and trying to help.

"Wow. Not a syllable in this where he is not being a man, taking it on the chin and accepting percent ownership whether he was wrong or not. The best apology I e heard in a minute. "
marklashark:
"You’re human too bro! We all make mistakes sometimes, no one is perfect!"
However, some people thought that it was too little too late:

"Is this an apology?? Apologizing and saying, “I want to apologize” are 2 different things... just saying ♀️"

"NOT AN APOLOGY WRITTEN ON THE NOTES APP TWO DECADES LATE."

In other news, some music fans from the US have taken to social media to shut down Usher and Justin Timberlake's Verzuz battle.
Usher and Justin Timberlake have both dropped classic albums in their careers and are both talented dancers but music lovers don't want Justin Timberlake to take part in Verzuz.
Timbaland, who founded Verzuz with Swizz Beatz, recently shared that Drake hit him up and requested an Usher and Justin Timberlake (JT) battle next. Drake said he wants to see the battle between the two R&B singers and dancers happen in the near future. A few fans had also hit the world-renowned music producer requesting for the same battle.
