Jessie Duarte: Leaked Recording Solidifies Stance on Zuma and Zondo

A leaked audio clip of ANC Deputy Secretary-General Jessie Duarte during a meeting in March with the party’s national officials reveals support for former president Jacob Zuma on behalf of Jessie Duarte as she indicates her opinion that Zuma should not appear before Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo

Duarte continues by saying it would be pointless for Zuma to appear before Zondo and there was a “very antagonistic way of the judge dealing with Zuma or vice versa”.

Reports made by SowentanLIVE indicate that Duarte expressed herself in defence of former president Jacob Zuma stating that he had sufficiently explained his issues with the state capture inquiry and the judiciary as a whole.

A report by News24 said that Duarte displayed her displeasure towards the ANC for ordering party members to refrain from show support for Zuma when he appeared in court, Duarte's anger was based on the fact that it was now difficult for those who wanted to assist Zuma to do so.

In other news about Zuma, Briefly News recently reported that the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) has ruled that he must repay an estimated R16 million in legal fees.

The court dismissed his appeal dating back to the 2018 ruling that the former president must pay back his personal legal fees relating to his corruption case.

The court ruled that the decision to pay Zuma's legal fees was ‘unlawful, unconstitutional and invalid’, according to eNCA. The total amount owed by Zuma comes up to an estimated R16.78 million.
