It seems like, as a nation, we are getting somewhere with DJ Sumbody's murder as new information regarding Katiso Molefe has come to light, which resulted in him being denied bail and remaining in custody at the Kgosi Mampuru II Correctional Centre, formerly known as Pretoria Central Prison.

Recently, according to eNCA, Molefe, the Sandton businessman who was arrested in connection with the DJ's murder on Monday, 21 July 2025, appeared at the Alexandra Magistrates' Court in Johannesburg with the other three suspects, where he was accused of being the mastermind behind the assassination of the late Pretoria DJ and music producer in November 2022 alongside two of his bodyguards.

Molefe and the other suspects were linked to the murder of the Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart in April 2024, and also the attempted murder of actress Tebogo Thobejane. Their case has been postponed and should appear again in court on Tuesday, 29 July 2025.

When was DJ Sumbody killed?

DJ Sumbody was killed on 20 November 2022 in a drive-by shooting. He was gunned down in his Volkswagen GTI. His driver was in the car with him, and both were declared dead on the scene.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi implicated police officers, businessmen, prosecutors, politicians, and members of the judiciary in a drug syndicate which operated nationally. He also said a prominent businessman and police officers were linked to Sumebody's death.

During a media briefing on 6 July, KZN Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi hinted at a breakthrough in several celebrity murder cases.

Although no arrests had been made at the time, he said suspects were being tracked and evidence was mounting. Mkhwanazi also alleged that some senior officials were obstructing investigations to shield drug-linked criminal networks.

He further revealed that firearms recovered in Gauteng had been linked to multiple murders in the entertainment industry since 2021.

On Monday afternoon, 21 July, four suspects connected to DJ Sumbody’s murder were arrested in Gauteng during a joint police operation. Police said three of the men acted as hitmen, while the fourth planned and coordinated the fatal shooting.

DJ Sumbody’s family perform cleansing ritual at crime scene

After DJ Sumbody's murder, his family performed a cleansing ritual at the crime scene, as reported by Briefly News. TikTok user @angelsebothoma316 posted a video of DJ Sumbody's family at the crime scene performing a cleansing ceremony.

The ceremony is a spiritual practice where many believe that the spirit of the dead must be collected from the place of death. This is done to ensure that the deceased can rest peacefully, especially if they died violently. One relative was overcome with grief and broke down during the sad TikTok video. The police were present with the family, and it looked like the car with countless bullet holes was about to be towed.
