South African social media has been buzzing with a heated debate over who deserves more success between two of the country’s most talented singers, Tyla and Shekinah. The conversation shifted to deeper discussions on talent, timing and life in general.

It’s not unusual for fans to clash over their favourite artists, and this time Tyla’s Tygers are going head-to-head with Shekhinah’s fans. In the past, similar social media banter has escalated into real-life rivalries, like the one between Nasty C and A-Reece.

The showdown started when social media user @MVProJileka suggested Shekhinah should be as big, if not bigger, than Tyla, who has taken the global stage by storm since the release of her hit song Water. The post was captioned:

Tyla vs Shekhinah: fans debate who deserves more success

In the comments section, several netizens explained that talent and hard work don’t always equate to success in music or life in general. Others attempted to unpack why Tyla’s career soared, while Shekhinah’s seemed to plummet.

Here are some of the reactions:

@Artybotoman93 argued:

“Lol, it's not about who's better musically, bhuti. It never was.”

@MALI_K90 suggested:

“Sometimes luck works, sometimes sex sells. 🤞🏾”

@thulimbono debated:

“Life doesn’t work like that. Jabu Pule is way better than Lucas Radebe and Aron Mokoena. DJ Cleo made us dance more than Black Coffee did.”

@beegsbvda highlighted:

“Someone said it was never about who is better musically and that is 100% true. Talent is nice, but it does not mean you will have the most success. Take Cassper, Pearl Thusi, Minnie Dlamini, there are people better than them but nowhere near as successful.”

@Lowkey_Theseus explained:

“I’m a fan of Shekhinah, and I hardly listen to Tyla, but the only thing Shekhinah has over Tyla is songwriting. As vocalists, they are not in the same tier; I won’t even touch appeal and PR. Shekhinah was having organic growth until it was stunted by Amapiano, which made Tyla.”

@Jahnjahan said:

“Y’all are so fake. This little gal is representing you, facing a lot of challenges up there, but trying her best to keep pushing. All you see is so and so should be bigger? We all have different life journeys, and Tyla isn’t the one who drafts people’s paths.”

@SakiSoulM shared:

“Talent alone is not enough. With all resources at our disposal, there shouldn’t be any limitation to make it big.”

@spykiemashele argued:

“Hard work beats talent if talent is lazy.”
