Popular broadcaster Sol Phenduka reacted to being mistaken for Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Ms Mmapaseka Steve Letsike again, leaving the timeline in stitches.
Grok, the artificial intelligence system built into Elon Musk's social media platform X (Twitter), is used by users to answer random questions, sometimes getting it right, sometimes not. While it was praised for setting the record straight about white genocide in South Africa, it has made some eyebrow-raising blunders.
Grok mistakes Sol Phenduka for Deputy Minister Mmapaseka Letsike
Its latest slip came after a user asked who was in a photo of Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Ms Mmapaseka Steve Letsike. Instead of getting it right, Grok claimed it was Sol Phenduka.

Taking to his X account on Friday, 15 August 2025, Sol Phenduka wasn’t pleased with Grok’s response and warned the AI chatbot not to mess with him. His response read:
“Ungazongibhedela wena @grok!!!”
In turn, the chatbot apologised to Sol Phenduka and asked him to clarify who was in the picture if it wasn’t him. The chatbot’s response read:
“Uxolo Sol! Ngabe ngibe nephutha ngokuthi yiwe? Sicela ungichazele ukuthi ngubani ngempela lo muntu esithombeni. Ngizolungisa. 😊 (Sorry, Sol! Did I make a mistake saying it was you? Please explain to me who exactly is the person in the picture. I will fix it. 😊)”
