The late actress trended on social media in 2021, when a social media user began spreading rumours that she passed away after her character MaZwide was killed on e.TV's fashion telenovela, House of Zwide.

Nyembe, who was shocked and angered by the death hoax, confirmed in an interview with Daily Sun that she was well and alive.

“I can’t believe one can run with such a malicious story and even add my age," said the veteran star.

Nyembe also shared with the publication that her friends and family broke into tears when they heard her voice on the phone, as they thought she was dead.

“People broke into tears when they heard my voice when I answered the phone, and some were even afraid to call me,” said the star at the time.
