In the days following DJ Vumar's departure from Gagasi FM, we learned that the reason behind his exit has little to do with him taking a break.

The veteran broadcaster, whose real name is Vuma Buthelezi, left the station between 11 and 12 September 2025 after serving for over 10 years.

Shortly after Thandi "Zisto" Mhlongo parted ways with Gagasi, Briefly News reports that Vumar decided to take a break from radio after being involved in a near-fatal car accident in March. However, TimesLIVE reveals that the situation runs deeper.

Sources close to the station claim that Vumar felt underappreciated. According to a mole, the presenter had never been offered better slots during programming changes:

"He has never hosted a prime-time show like Breakfast or Drive. When there's a reshuffle, he ends up with weekend slots and often has to settle as a scheduled presenter."

Another source claimed that Vumar's appeal to listeners may have dwindled, while one insider hinted that he was in talks with a rival station that aligned with his current style.

Meanwhile, Briefly News reached out to Vumar to get his side of the story.

His manager shared a joint statement with Gagasi, addressing his decision to leave the station.

The statement highlighted the value Vumar brought to Gagasi. Part of the statement from Head of Audience Experience, Alex Mthiyane, spoke about embracing the DJ's calling to ministry:

"When DJ Vumar transitioned from being a dance music DJ to becoming a pastor, we, as a station, embraced his calling by placing him on the Sunday Gospel Show and the Sunrise Session. His dedication to his calling and strong work ethic helped him grow his community, with many listeners testifying to his impact."
