Beyoncé is in the eye of a social media storm after a screenshot from her official website revealed she is selling a handcrafted wooden crate for nearly $1,000 — with no music included.
X user @amanialexandor brought the product to widespread attention after sharing a screenshot of the "Bey Keeper Collector's Box," priced at $948.01 (approximately R15,135).
The item is a nod to the Alien Superstar hitmaker's status as the "Queen B," drawing on the imagery of traditional beekeeper crates. Designed to house and display vinyl records, the box is described on her site in bold terms.
"HANDCRAFTED FROM SOLID PINE WOOD, FINISHED WITH BEESWAX OIL, LINED IN DEEP GREEN VELVET, AND FITTED WITH A FAUX GATOR-SKIN LEATHER CARRYING STRAP WITH GOLD HARDWARE, EACH BOX FEATURES CUSTOM ENGRAVED DETAILS AND IS EXCLUSIVELY NUMBERED 1/500, MAKING THIS AN ESSENTIAL PIECE OF ART FOR THE HIVE."

Only 500 units exist, making it a strictly limited release. The catch that lit up timelines, however, is that the steep price covers only the crate itself - not a single vinyl record.

"And the Beyhive is gonna pay they $1k for it too, talkin' bout collectables. But gas is $5 a gallon, and she is charging $900 for a wooden box is absurd!"

"Insane because do you know how CHEAP pine wood is? You can easily make this for maybe $30."

The hive defends Queen Bey
Predictably, loyal fans pushed back hard against the criticism.
SunQueen000 said:
"It's called memorabilia, which will be worth way more when she's no longer here. Especially since only 500 were made. Only 500 people in the world will have those."

"If you can't afford it, then move along. It's a collector's item. Only 500 made; some people in the world can spend 500 and not lose sleep. She's not out of touch and knows that her fans aren't only lower and middle class; some people have money, love, and adore her too."
zarilinus added a more light-hearted take:
"It's worth it, lol, you can fit so much in there."
