Fitness enthusiast and businesswoman Bongani Mthombeni has announced that she and her long-term partner, former Bafana Bafana defender Matthew Booth, are expecting a baby together. The couple, whose relationship famously began under controversial circumstances, are now adding a new member to their family.

On 4 September 2026, Bongani shared a photo on Instagram of three pairs of Adidas trainers side by side: two adult pairs and a noticeably tiny one. The caption that accompanied it was simple but unmistakable.

"Tiny kicks are officially on the way."

The day after the announcement, the couple attended a Hyrox fitness event together, where Bongani wore a black unitard that left her growing baby bump plainly visible. She also posted a video to her stories, light-heartedly joking that "three of them" had just made it through what she called "the dungeon."

Bongani, who regularly documents her relationship with Booth on social media and refers to Booth as her life partner in her Instagram bio, has been open about their bond since the two went public.

A relationship born in scandal

Their love story did not begin smoothly. The pair made national headlines after Booth's then-wife, Sonia Booth, publicly exposed their affair on social media. One of the most memorable details to emerge from that saga was that Matthew had reportedly baked a cheesecake for Bongani in the middle of the night, a detail that quickly took on a life of its own online. At the time, Bongani had also been in a relationship with Klaus Moller, from whom she later filed for divorce in 2023.

Despite the very public fallout, the couple weathered the storm. They have since built a life together, including launching joint business ventures.
