Tyla may be a Grammy Award-winning global pop star now, but she was once a little girl being hauled into a camera room over a Fizzer. The South African singer shared the wild childhood memory during a snack-ranking segment for Elle UK's YouTube channel on 2 September 2026, and it is every bit as dramatic as it sounds.
In the video, Tyla worked her way through a lineup of beloved South African treats, including Romany Creams, Ghost Pops and Nik Naks, rating each from best to worst. Things took a personal turn when the Cream Soda Fizzer landed on the table.
Tyla's "dramatic" Fizzer story
Rather than simply chewing and scoring the candy, the Water hitmaker revealed that the chewy sweet holds a complicated place in her memory. She recalled being stopped by a security guard at a store as a child, accused of walking out without paying for the snack.

"One time, a security [guard] stopped me in a store because they thought I stole a Fizzer. They were like, 'You're shoplifting,' and I was like, 'Really? I'm not going to steal a Fizzer,'" she said, clearly still bemused by the whole situation.

She joked that the incident nearly landed her in juvenile detention, adding that she was with her sister at the time and describing the whole ordeal as "so dramatic." The guards had stopped them on their way out of the store, demanding to know what they were chewing and flatly accusing the pair of theft.
Tyla explained that she and her sister had actually walked into the store already eating ice cream, but the guards were not convinced. The situation escalated to the point where the two girls were escorted to a back room to review the security footage, which ultimately proved their innocence.
Given everything the Fizzer put her through, it perhaps comes as no surprise that Tyla placed it dead last in the snack rankings, scoring it the worst in its category. The chewy candy that once brought her so much stress earned no redemption points from the singer, even all these years later.
