Relief swept through some corners of social media after Zimbabwean publication ZimLive confirmed that Wicknell Chivayo's two children from his former marriage were not aboard the helicopter that crashed near Marondera on Wednesday evening, killing the businessman, his new wife Lucy, and four others.
Chivayo, who would have turned 46 in November, was travelling to Harare when the aircraft went down in a rural area of Marondera at approximately 5 p.m. Family spokesman Herbert Chivayo broke the news, confirming that the businessman and Lucy perished in the crash along with two crew members and two other as-yet unidentified individuals.
The children — born to Chivayo's ex-wife Sonja Madzikanda — were not on board, putting to rest circulating fears over their safety.
