Zimbabwean music star Jah Prayzah has put his wedding plans on hold after the sudden death of businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife Lucy, who were killed in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, 30 September 2026. The singer shared an emotional statement on Facebook, saying the tragedy had left him and his fiancée too heartbroken to celebrate.

Chivayo, who would have turned 46 in November, was aboard a helicopter travelling to Harare when the aircraft went down in a rural area near Marondera at approximately 5 p.m., according to family spokesman Herbert Chivayo. Police confirmed the crash but did not immediately release the names of those on board.

Jah Prayzah mourns Wicknell Chivayo's death

In a joint statement signed by Mukudzeyi and Rufaro Mukombe and posted to Facebook on Thursday, 1 October 2026, Jah Prayzah opened with the Shona phrase "Hatina mashoko akakwana panguva yakadai," meaning there are no words adequate for a moment like this.

"Wicknell was more than a friend to us. He was family, a brother, and someone who walked closely with us through many chapters of life. Losing him together with Lucy in such a sudden way is a pain that is difficult to put into words," the statement read.

The couple extended their condolences to all families affected by the crash, writing, "Mwari vape nyaradzo nesimba kune vose vari kuchema panguva ino," asking God to grant comfort and strength to all who are mourning.

Jah Prayzah's wedding postponed after Wicknell's death

Jah Prayzah confirmed that his wedding, which had been scheduled for 3 October 2026, will no longer proceed as planned.

"Out of love, respect and the need to grieve with family, our wedding, which was scheduled for 3 October, has been postponed," the statement said, adding that the couple will resume their wedding plans when the time feels right.

The post was accompanied by an image of a lit candle against a black background, reflecting the weight of the announcement.

Zimbabweans react to Jah Prayzah's tribute

Followers reacted to both the news of Chivayo's death and Jah Prayzah's decision to postpone his special day. Rurue Phiri shared:

"No matter how much pain he caused us, no matter how much we disagreed with him, a death is still a death. Let's not celebrate anyone losing their life. That's not who we are. Let's choose humanity over hatred."

Shyline Anitah Dumukwa wrote:

Christabel Kwaramba said:

"Pain is pain no matter how wicked the person was or how good the person was."

Wicknell Chivayo’s final post raises eyebrows

Meanwhile, Briefly News reported that the wording in Wicknell Chivayo's lengthy tribute to his lawyers hours before dying in a helicopter crash in rural Marondera raised eyebrows.

In the post, Chivayo gifted lawyer Wilson Manase a 2026 Lexus GX 550 worth $220,000 and $250,000 cash, and Advocate Sylvester Hashiti a Range Rover Sport and $500,000.
