South African author Jackie Phamotse has sparked a conversation online after posting a pointed reflection on millionaire Zimbabwean businessman Wicknell Chivayo's movements in the days before he and his wife Lucy died in a helicopter crash. Her post, shared on Thursday, 1 October 2026, drew sharp attention for the way it seemed to connect Chivayo's final engagements to a broader pattern she described as operating "in the darkness."

Chivayo, who would have turned 46 in November, perished alongside his wife when their helicopter came down near Marondera, Zimbabwe, on Wednesday evening, 30 September 2026. Family spokesman Herbert Chivayo confirmed the deaths, noting the aircraft went down in a rural area at around 5 p.m. as they were flying to Harare. Police confirmed the crash but did not immediately name those aboard.

In the days before his death, Chivayo had been notably active in religious circles. On 25 September 2026, he and Lucy hosted Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa for dinner at their home. The following day, he attended the House of Treasures Church Conference led by Apostle Felix Okoh, where he met with Apostle Joshua Selman.

Phamotse said the visits suggested a man was urgently seeking favour.

"Whatever he knew pushed him to rush to all his pastor friends. He was moving money as much as he could, from wedding gifts, church gifts and random people in the streets, etc. It was like he wanted to buy favour. Maybe even buying time," she wrote.

She added:

"The tale is in tracing back his steps. There is a certain dignity that comes with people who are true in their line of work. Grace follows them, but there is always this darkness that follows people who operate in the darkness. Their lives mean nothing when death arrives."

Her words drew a range of responses online:

@RudyMFK pushed back:

"Your analysis is wrong. There was no time or favours that Chivayo was buying; everything he did was out of a pure heart. Chivayo was probed earlier by Zimbabwe's Anti-Corruption Commission for suspected corruption & money laundering, but no foul play was found."

@TruePamgam wrote:

"And those that took those cars, if I were in those churches, this would be the time to escape with my soul intact."

@CashoutChampion pointed to Chivayo's spending habits:

"With all the cars he gave away, he built nothing to remember him. He gave away over $50 million in cars or cash, yet couldn't even build a school or hospital. The time came when his lawyer refused his gift here on X."

@wealthyhun shifted tone entirely:

"I want to buy your books. Which one would you advise I start with?"

Wicknell Chivayo’s last post raises suspicion

Jackie Phamotse isn't the only netizen who speculated that Wicknell Chivayo had a premonition.

Briefly News reported that Wicknell Chivayo's lengthy tribute to his lawyers hours before dying in a helicopter crash in rural Marondera raised suspicion that he knew what was coming.

In the post, Chivayo gifted lawyer Wilson Manase a 2026 Lexus GX 550 worth $220,000 and $250,000 cash, and Advocate Sylvester Hashiti a Range Rover Sport and $500,000.
