Thomas "Mukanya" Mapfumo has put social media speculation to rest, confirming that he received his full performance fee for two Harare shows that were booked by the late businessman Wicknell Chivayo. The Chimurenga icon had become the target of online jokes questioning whether he had been paid before Chivayo perished in a helicopter crash on Wednesday.
The veteran musician was reportedly contracted in a deal worth $1 million, with the shows tied to the wedding celebrations of fellow musician Jah Prayzah. Those celebrations have since been shelved indefinitely following Chivayo's death.

"I can confirm that I was paid in full for the work I was supposed to do, and I will honour my contract of work," he said.
The legendary musician, who is based in the United States, said he would fly back home and await word on a rescheduled date.
New performance date being arranged
Mapfumo's publicist, Cuthbert Chiromo, backed up the musician's account and revealed that conversations with Jah Prayzah's management about rescheduling were already underway.
Jah Prayzah's wedding, which was expected to be the centrepiece of the celebrations Chivayo had organised, remains postponed as he mourns the businessman's passing. A confirmed date for Mapfumo's performance is expected once the burial proceedings have concluded.
