Shauwn "MaMkhize" Mkhize is back, unbothered, and making a statement about where her money goes. The businesswoman made a dramatic return to Instagram, firing back at critics who suggested she had taken a step down from her famously extravagant lifestyle.

In the video, the 51-year-old smashed a bottle of champagne before wheeling her bags into the boot of her BMW. Her caption set the tone:

"Crushing all bad energies and making room for new beginnings. ✈️✨ Sometimes you just need to take a short left, switch off and get moving."

MaMkhize champions South African brands

The luggage she was carrying was not Louis Vuitton or any other European luxury house. It was ERA, the travel brand by fellow South African DJ Zinhle, paired with pieces from local clothing label AM Collection. MaMkhize framed her choices as a deliberate act of solidarity, saying she was "supporting sisterhood" and called out what she described as "Pull Down syndrome, embarrassing our own always."

When a follower pointed out the shift with the comment "From Louis Vuitton to Era," MaMkhize did not shy away. She responded:

"Era is from my sister. Why is there a problem when I support her? I don't know Louis Vuitton, but I know Zinhle, hence I go loud with her brand."

The SARS debt that forced a quieter season

MaMkhize's low profile in recent months has been tied to a bruising financial period. Through the family's Shandi Trust, she was reported to owe around R40 million in unpaid taxes to SARS. A High Court-authorised search-and-seizure operation was carried out at her properties in 2024, and luxury assets including vehicles, designer handbags, furniture, equipment, and alcohol were auctioned off to help cover the outstanding amount.

Her football club, Royal AM FC, was placed under curatorship and, following failed rescue bids, was ultimately expelled by the PSL. The tax troubles are part of a longer string of controversies that have followed MaMkhize over the years, including allegations of tender fraud, corruption, and forgery. Her latest Instagram appearance signals that she is stepping back into the spotlight on her own terms, backing homegrown talent and redefining what luxury looks like for her.
