Berita just can't catch a break. The award-winning singer has been promoting her new single on social media. However, people on the internet are dragging her controversial ex, Nota Baloyi, into her happy moment.

The Zimbabwean-born songstress, whose real name is Gugulethu Khumalo, released her new song, named after her first name. She made it extra special by debuting the track on her birthday, 27 June.

The song's cover art included a picture of the singer when she was young and her grandmother, who she shared helped raise her and shape the foundation of who she is.

"A song that carries my name, my story and my spirit," she told the public on her Instagram account.

Taking to her X account on 24 July, a fresh-faced and then glammed-up Berita continued to promote her project and shared a video of herself jamming to the track.

She wrote in the post's caption:

"New music, new glow. Stream Gugulethu here."

However, just as the star shared her excitement, fans' attention shifted, with many dragging in her controversial ex, Nota Baloyi.

Despite the couple finalising their divorce last year, Nota's 'presence' still lingers. Fortunately, those supporting Nota were few as some social media users showed that they were Team Berita.

@HomeAwayWin wrote under the tweet:

"Hi, Berita. Don't take him back. Enjoy your day."

@Bas_quit told members of the online community:

"Nota fumbled a beautiful woman here."

Berita opens up about marriage to Nota Baloyi

In a related article about the former couple, Briefly News reported that the singer-songwriter shared details about her marriage to Nota during a tell-all interview with media personality Palesa Madisakwane.

It seems that COVID-19 was the downfall of their relationship, as the singer stated that their marriage would still have existed if it weren't for the lockdown. Berita added that Nota wanted to become a critic, and his new ways had affected her brand. The music executive has also been known to publicly bash Berita, hurling insults on X.
