Buds on Netflix started as a viral rumour
On February 6, 2025, a Facebook user called Yoda Bby Aby uploaded a poster of Jim Carrey and Adam Sandler sitting in a café with a large title of the word 'Buds'. The caption read:
Coming to Netflix in June 2025, it's BUDS - the comedy series where Jim Carrey as Jim Harris and Adam Sandler as Adam Klein, two lifelong buds, turn their dreams into green reality by opening The Giggle Garden in the heart of NYC. Follow these two as they navigate the wild, wacky world of legal green, dealing with city life's unique challenges, from battling regulations to outsmarting rivals, all while keeping the laughs coming. It's 10 episodes of pure, uncut comedy - don't miss it, only on Netflix.
The poster generated a lot of buzz on the internet, which is understandable. It got over 325,000 likes, over 29,000 comments, and more than 74,000 reposts.
Facebook user Alton McCormick wrote under the post, "This is the comedy duo we've been waiting for!" Taylor Stockam commented, "Literally my two favourite comedy actors. This better be good", while Mark Rauscher wrote, "It's about time they finally get to work together in something."

Is Buds on Netflix really happening?
The supposed Bud series on Netflix is an elaborate online hoax generated by AI. There has been no official confirmation from Adam Sandler, Netflix, or Jim Carrey that such a project is in the works.
The original viral post ends with "Not Real. For entertainment Purposes only", but it seems many people missed that part. Facebook user Yoda Bby Aby, who posted the alleged show, is also a prank page which describes itself as "100% satire and fake news."
Carrey and Sandler are both comedy legends who have surprisingly never worked together on a major movie or a television series. The idea of a 10-episode series seemed plausible because of Netflix's history of working with major Hollywood stars to create original content.

Will Adam Sandler and Jim Carrey ever work together?
A movie or TV show collaboration between the two Hollywood Titans is not impossible. Jim Carrey had announced in 2022 that he would be taking a step back, telling Access Hollywood that "I've done enough."
Jim changed his mind about retiring when he returned to the big screen as Dr. Ivo Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024). The actor told Comicbook.com in December 2024 that he may not be leaving Hollywood altogether but will be considering each project he takes on individually.
It has to be the right idea... You can't be definite about these things. I said I'd like to retire, but I think I was talking more about power-resting. Because as soon as a good idea comes your way, or a group of people that you really enjoyed working with and stuff, it just – things tend to change.
Adam Sandler has an existing lucrative deal with Netflix and his Happy Madison Productions. In 2020, he signed a multi-picture contract extension with the streaming giant.
2025 has been a busy year for Sandler, who released Happy Gilmore 2 in July 2025. He is set to star alongside George Clooney, Laura Dern, and Riley Keough in Jay Kelly, which premieres on Netflix on December 5, 2025.
