More than one million people have been displaced in Myanmar since the military coup last year, the United Nations children's agency has said. Since the coup and as of last month, 1,017,000 people have been internally displaced, UNICEF said in a statement on Thursday.

Taiwanese semiconductor giant TSMC posted better-than-expected third-quarter profits on Friday as rivals warn that demand for consumer electronics is being hit by the global economic downturn. TSMC's results came the same day biggest rival Samsung Electronics warned it expects operating profits in the third quarter to fall 32 percent.

Hong Kong said Friday it will not act on any "unilateral" Western sanctions, after a luxury megayacht linked to one of Russia's wealthiest oligarchs docked in its waters. "The Hong Kong government does not implement, nor do we have the legal authority to take action on, unilateral sanctions imposed by other jurisdictions," a spokesperson told AFP on Friday.
