At least 34 people were killed and dozens injured in two separate road accidents Saturday, each in places where collisions had taken place shortly before, local media reported. Three paramedics, three firefighters and two journalists from Turkey's Ilhas news agency were among those killed, local media reported.

Kenya's veteran politician Raila Odinga on Saturday defended plans to make a court challenge to the results of last week's "joke" election that handed victory to Deputy President William Ruto. Ruto was declared president-elect on Monday, scraping past Odinga with a margin of less than two percentage points, after an anxious days-long wait for results of the August 9 vote.
