The couple's kitchen makeover focused on smart upgrades rather than complete replacements. They kept the solid cupboard frames and only changed the face plates, giving the space a fresh look without breaking the bank. Their decision to use laminated countertops instead of granite saved them around R10,000, while reusing their existing sink kept expenses down further.
The kitchen costs included cupboard handles (R340), backsplash (R1,500), new tap (R1,100), countertops (R3,000), and new doors with face plates (R1,600), totalling R7,540.
The bathroom required a full renovation due to its dated layout. The couple invested more in this space to create a modern, functional area. They removed the old bathtub and installed a sleek shower, floating basin, and contemporary black fittings against white tiles and paint.
Bathroom expenses included shower glass panel (R2,150), mixer (R1,000), shower arm (R360), shower head (R700), drain (R400), toilet (R2,200), plumbing materials (R1,500), cabinet with a basin (R4,300), basin tap (R870), and various other fittings, reaching R20,069.
General renovation costs covered flooring, cement, and grout (R14,000), paint (R7,600), downlights (R1,500), switches (R800), plugs (R700), bedroom cupboard handles (R216), door handles (R400), labour (R24,000), tile delivery (R1,000), unexpected plumbing costs (R10,000), and miscellaneous materials (R1,500). The complete renovation totalled R90,125.
