Government speaks out about Maponya Mall incident
On Friday, two days after the Maponya Mall incident, the South African government addressed the brutal killing of an e-hailing driver. It is reported that MEC for Roads and Transport, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, met with all public transport operators in Soweto to find lasting solutions to issues affecting the sector.
The meeting resolved that all public transport operators must be allowed access and operate inside the mall, and will remain operational to protect jobs.
The stakeholders also called for law-enforcement agencies to prioritise the investigation into Wednesday night’s incident and bring those involved to book.

Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, was one of the prominent politicians who voiced out his concerns and calls for the shutdown of the podcast. He stood up for the Coloured community, but things quickly backfired after social media users found old racist tweets published by the minister.
