Travelling in style and luxury with Emirates
The Briefly News team spoke with Nosiphiwo Diniso, who spent two decades with SAA, about the luxury flight video.
We asked what her thoughts were about seeing the luxury Emirates flight and the man's experience. She shared:
"I am amazed by the beauty and the level of professionalism with a personalised service offered by the airline. The level of luxury and the service they offer are truly incredible. The standards are so high, and the attention to detail is just fantastic. It's a testament to how the aviation industry has evolved over the years."

We asked if our national carrier, SAA, has something of that magnitude. The former flight attendant responded:
"No, SAA does not have a similar offering on that scale. The airline, however, did have the Boeing 747 fleet, which had a first class, a business class, and an economy class. It was also a very classy experience, and its standards were quite higher than the other two classes, but it was not as modern as the Emirates' A380."
We asked her to tell us more about SAA's Boeing 747's first class. She added:
"The first class was a thing of beauty. We provided a high standard of service, and the experience was very luxurious for its time. It was retired in the early 2000s, in 2004, if I'm not mistaken, before a lot of the technology that Emirates has was introduced. So we can't really compare the two, plus Emirates is an airline from a country rich in oil, so money is not an issue."

Looking at the Emirates cabin crew's level of professionalism, we asked how they compare to the cabin crew on our local airlines. Nosiphiwo responded.
"I am going to specifically respond with reference to SAA cabin crew, as I have no experience working for other airlines. SAA's cabin crew are very professional and highly trained. We were taught to provide a high standard of service and to make passengers feel comfortable. We were also taught to be empathetic and to handle any situation with grace and professionalism."

The man then shows the huge legroom, which has storage for luggage, and the gold-plated buckle on his seat belt. He also shows the olives and crisps that he received, and is told that he can get unlimited caviar. He then walks to the back and finds a bar behind the business class section, where people are enjoying drinks and champagne.

Many local viewers calculated the cost and noted that the man paid over R200,000 for just flights. Some commented that the flight experience alone was like a holiday, asking the man how long he had flown for. Others said they were convinced that money does buy one happiness, saying the man would look and sound happy experiencing such a luxurious flight.

"I’ve only flown once on Emirates business class, and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it because I was on a 20-hour flight from Johannesburg to Washington, DC. Would I do it again? No! I regretted spending so much money on just a flight. The people in economy class also arrived with me, in fact, they even got to the immigration queue quicker than me 😭 😄."
