The clip, shared by a local content creator, features an exclusive Constantia home that has sparked fierce debate about affordability, value, and the state of the housing market in SA.
In the video, the woman who goes by the TikTok handle @maggiereadsabook showcased to her viewers the ultra-modern space. Despite having only one bedroom and one bathroom, the property spans a massive 400m², making it far larger than the typical apartment seen in the city.
The home also comes with three parking spaces, a feature that caught many viewers off guard, given the limited number of rooms. For most South Africans, the R13,000,000 price remained the biggest talking point.

The stunning Constantia location, known for its exclusivity, wineries and high-value properties, certainly plays a major role in the luxury apartment’s hefty cost. However, Mzansi social media users still couldn’t believe the idea of paying millions for a home with only one bedroom, regardless of its size or upscale appeal.
The comments section quickly erupted with disbelief, jokes, and heated opinions. Many questioned whether the value matched the asking price, while others expressed frustration over the widening gap between ordinary citizens and the elite property market.
Some viewers poked fun at the situation, joking that for R13 million, they expected at least an extra bedroom or even a staff quarter. Others defended the home’s design and location, arguing that Constantia’s prestige naturally drives up market prices.
The viral video that was shared by the TikTok user @maggiereadsabook on 17 November 2025 has since continued to fuel conversations around luxury real estate in Cape Town, highlighting once again how sharply divided public sentiment is when it comes to property affordability in South Africa.
