Tyla has set social media ablaze after turning her individual SAMA win into a full celebration of African artistry, and the internet simply cannot get enough.

At the South African Music Awards held on 15 August 2026, the Grammy-winning star took home the Afripure International Achievement Award. Rather than keeping the spotlight to herself, Tyla used her acceptance speech to invite her fellow artists from across the continent onto the stage beside her.
Mid-speech, Tyla called out names including Casbah, Makadzi, Babwala, Zee, Maklera, and Dapi, urging every African artist in the room to share the stage with her. The footage reposted by @mzansity was filmed indoors against a striking pink and purple-lit backdrop with red-lit steps and a large screen displaying her name alongside the award title, showing artists rushing up to join her in a joyful, crowded celebration.
"I want to take this moment to celebrate all African artists. Our music, our culture is so rich, and I'm so proud of everybody. I pray one day to see a unified Africa."

The clip spread rapidly, drawing a wave of reactions from South Africans who were moved, amused, and proud in equal measure.
