A young, self-taught South African inventor has built a robot that can speak 11 of the country's official languages, turning what started as curiosity into a remarkable engineering achievement.

According to a News24 report from 26 August 2026, the teenager taught himself the skills needed to bring the project to life. Without formal training in robotics or programming, he pieced together the knowledge required to build a machine that can hold conversations in languages spanning Zulu, Xhosa, Sotho and more.
