Learners at a Soshanguve secondary school in Pretoria walked out of classes on 1 September 2026, protesting against conditions that forced them to write their exams inside buses.
@NewsNexusOfficial shared a TikTok video capturing the moment a learner spoke out about the situation at the school in Soshanguve, Gauteng. In the clip, a learner calmly explained that they had no proper classrooms to write their exams in and were instead seated inside buses. She also raised concerns about the absence of adequate toilet facilities at the school.
Containers arrive after protest goes viral
By the morning of 2 September 2026, the video had drawn enough attention to prompt a response. Two container classrooms were reportedly delivered to the school following the outcry sparked by the protest. The update was shared by NewsNexusOfficial, who captioned the post with a direct message: “Department of Education, if you see this post, build a proper school.”
