Shiloh Mngomeni, a 14-year-old Grade 8 learner at Fairbairn College in Cape Town, passed away on 21 September 2026 following a sudden health-related emergency. She was born on 3 December 2011.
The school shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook, describing Shiloh as a young leader who brought warmth and positivity to everyone around her.
Shiloh had previously attended Goodwood Park Primary School before joining the Fairbairn community, where she became a member of the Photography Society and the Tennis Club. Teachers described her as diligent, respectful and deeply committed to her work. One of her most remembered habits was hugging her register teacher before leaving class each day, a small gesture that those who knew her now hold close.
A community in mourning
Shiloh's passing is a profound loss for those closest to her. She had already experienced grief at a young age, having lost her mother several years ago. She is survived by her grandmother, her little sister, extended family and friends.

Fairbairn College asked its community to respect the family's privacy and to surround them with love and compassion during this difficult time.
Fairbairn College closed its tribute with a message to its learners and staff:
"May we remember her not only for the sadness of her passing, but for the joy she brought while she was with us. Your smile, your kindness, your dedication and your hugs will be remembered."

Bianca Mouton, who taught Shiloh in Grade 6, wrote:
"I feel incredibly honoured to have been Shilo's Grade 6 teacher. She was such a sweet, friendly and loving girl who left a very special impression on my heart. I am so grateful to have known her and will always remember her with so much love."
Marlize Rademeyer, her Grade 7 teacher, added:
"It was a privilege to teach you in Grade 7, Shiloh. Such a beautiful soul. Lots of love to her family."
Cecilè Van Zyl, also a Grade 7 teacher, said:
"RIP lovely girl... That smile will always stay with us... What a privilege it was to teach you in Grade 7."

"So sad... Dear Shiloh... Strength to her grandmother and the rest of her family during this terribly sad loss."
