"They're Still Stunning": TikToker's Checkers Non-Stick Pots Pass the One-Year Test, Mzansi Wants In

  • A South African TikToker put her Checkers non-stick pots through a full year of daily cooking and came back with a verdict that had the internet talking
  • The frying pan in the set is showing discolouration and sticking after being used every single day, which experts say is completely normal for non-stick cookware
  • Budget non-stick coatings are not built to last forever, and daily high-heat cooking speeds up the breakdown faster than most people realise when they buy the pots

A South African content creator put her Checkers non-stick cookware through a real test. Lisa M, known on TikTok as @lisa.mt_, posted her one-year verdict on 15 March 2026.

She bought the pots and used them almost every single day. After a request from one follower, she gave an honest review of her cookware after a full year. The review landed via a TikTok video. @lisa.mt_ answered the question her followers had been asking for months. Does budget non-stick cookware actually hold up, or does it only look good out of the box?

What a year of daily cooking looks like

After twelve months of daily use, the frying pan showed one brown spot on the bottom. The handles were still firmly in place, and the lids had not budged at all. The rest of the pots in the set looked almost exactly as they did on day one.

The frying pan was the only piece that showed any real signs of wear. Food had started sticking slightly more, so @lisa.mt_ began adding a little extra butter or oil. Despite those two issues, she said that she was still very much in love with the set.

The science behind why non-stick cookware sticks

What the content creator experienced is something that hap pens to nearly every non-stick pan eventually. It does not matter whether the pan costs R300 or R3,000. Non-stick coatings are most commonly made from a material called PTFE. They are simply not designed to last forever.
