An American jogger’s emotional video left social media users in a mix of amusement and disbelief after she shared an embarrassing incident during her morning run.

The candid clip, shared on her TikTok account @lyonessruns, went viral, garnering 9M views, 866K likes, and 17.5K comments from viewers who shared mixed reactions.

The woman was on her five-and-a-half-mile run of her 22-mile jogging exercise around the Chicago Lake trail. Taking a video selfie while walking in the dark, she tearfully shared that she had an unfortunate accident and that there were no bathrooms available as it was still too early in the morning.

Is morning the best time to go for a run?

She added that she had to wake her boyfriend, Brandon, up at 4 am and ask him to come and pick her up. She said she could no longer run or walk the 5 miles back after she messed herself. Grateful to have someone like Brandon, the woman described herself as literally walking the walk of shame.

The boyfriend arrived with towels to cover her and then had another one on the seat of the car. After he drove to their place, she cleaned herself and then went right back to the road to finish the 16 miles she hadn't done.

How to prepare for a morning run

The Briefly News team spoke with Zolile Buyaphi about the video of the American jogger and her mishap.

The runner was going for a 22-mile run, a significant distance. We asked Zolile what kind of preparation is needed for a run of that length, and he said:

"A marathon run requires a lot of preparation, both mentally and physically. You need to train your body to handle the distance, but you also need to train your mind to handle the pain and the challenges. She was doing a 22-mile run in the morning, which is a great way to train your body."

After the accident happened, the woman went home to clean herself, and got back to finish her miles. We asked the man what that says about her character as a runner. The local runner responded:

"It says that she is a dedicated and disciplined runner. The mental toughness required to go back on the road after such an embarrassing mishap is a sign of a great runner. It shows that she is focused on her goal and that she will not let anything get in her way."

We asked how important having a supportive partner like @lyonessruns's boyfriend, who rescued her after the mishap, was, and Zolile responded:

"A supportive partner is crucial. The journey of a marathon runner is a long and lonely one. You need someone who will be there for you when you are in pain and who will celebrate with you when you have a good run. The jogger is lucky to have a man who understands her and comes to rescue her."

The comments section was filled with a mix of reactions from social media users. Many felt she was oversharing, saying not even the FBI would get such information out of them. Some were amused and advised her to stop and squat near a tree the next time, instead of messing on herself. Others praised the man for his prompt response, calling him a keeper.
