A 22-year-old University of Limpopo student was found dead near the institution's campus in Mankweng, Limpopo, in the early hours of Sunday, 4 October 2026, prompting a police investigation and an outpouring of grief across South Africa.

Police officers on routine patrol discovered the student's body at approximately 06:00 AM along Sovenga Street, right next to the university's perimeter fence. She was found partially clothed, with her head inside a trench that runs adjacent to the fence. A bag recovered beside her contained her official identity document and her NSFAS allowance card, which helped authorities confirm her identity.
