GAUTENG – At least two people have been killed in Ekurhuleni, following a cash-in-transit (CIT) heist in the Dawn Park area.

The two people were killed following a shootout between the CIT robbers and a security company. The heist happened just after 1 pm on 1 September 2025 in the Boksburg area, with police unable to confirm yet whether the victims were members of the security or the armed gang.

Armed gang fled after detonating explosives

While the full details are yet to be revealed, police reported that the suspects detonated explosives on the CIT vehicle before escaping with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Video footage has since surfaced of the aftermath of the heist, where people can be scurrying as gunshots can be heard in the background.

Another video showed people crowding around the wreckage of the vehicles as they attempted to grab whatever cash they could.
