GAUTENG – A high-speed chase on the N14 has resulted in the death of four suspects wanted for several house robberies.

Gauteng Highway Patrol and private security acted on information from Crime Intelligence and began a tracing operation for the house robbery suspects who were terrorising various areas in Gauteng.

At approximately 3 pm, members spotted a vehicle matching the description of the getaway car belonging to the suspects. The vehicle was spotted on the R55 in Centurion. When officers attempted to stop it, the men sped off, and a chase ensued.

Air support called in to assist

The Gauteng Traffic Police (GTP) Air Wing was called in to support the team with aerial surveillance during the chase and spotted the suspects taking the N14 on-ramp towards Pretoria.

Police were then able to close in, which led to the suspects opening fire on the officers behind them. Police retaliated, fatally wounding all four occupants of the vehicle. The vehicle was searched, and officers found three handguns and ammo, as well as tools used to break into homes. Police also found that the white Hyundai sedan that the suspects were driving was fitted with false registration plates and discs.

EFF criticises the USA’s gun culture after Charlie Kirk’s murder

Meanwhile, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has weighed in on the rising gun violence in the United States of America, but some South Africans are questioning why the party doesn’t focus on local issues first.

The Red Berets shared a statement on X (formerly Twitter) about the escalating cases of gun violence in the country in the wake of the murder of Charlie Kirk. The 31-year-old American right-wing political activist was shot dead while speaking at a university in Utah.

In the statement on Thursday, 11 September 2025, the party noted with concern the cases of violence involving guns in the US, stating that Kirk was a strong advocate for unrestricted access to firearms.

“It is not lost on us that the very same man who argued that lives lost are a price worth paying for gun rights has himself become a casualty of the very system he championed,” the statement read.
