South Africans reacted to a video of KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi calming commissioners after a gun scare.
Mkhwanazi has dominated headlines following his appearance at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. His explosive revelations aren’t the only reason Mkhwanazi has topped trending charts.
The courageous top cop has also trended for his behaviour, such as bringing his own water, at the Madlanga Commission. Mkhwanazi left South Africans swooning after he calmly reassured the commissioners after a loud bang.
Mkhwanazi calms Madlanga Commissioners after gun scare
On Friday, 19 September 2025, Lieutenant-General Mkhwanazi made his third appearance at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry. During his appearance, Mkhwanazi made several damning revelations, including how controversial businessman Brown Mogotsi contacted him.
Social media user @Am_Blujay took to X and shared a video of Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi testifying before the Madlanga Commission. The post was captioned:
“Bro scanned the room so fast #MadlangaCommision”
Mkhwanazi paused mid-sentence while giving evidence, after a gun-like sound filled the room. After a few seconds of silence, the commissioners burst into laughter after Mkhwanazi allayed their fears and reassured them that they were safe.
“You are safe, Commissioners. It’s technology, it happens,” Mkhwanazi said while calmly smiling.
