WESTERN CAPE - Dereleen James has left social media users amused after sharing a video of herself sliding a manifesto under a door.

The ActionSA member and its Cape Town Mayoral candidate shared the video on X on Monday, 31 August 2026. In the nine-second clip, James, dressed in a green jacket, is seen slipping what she described as the party's manifesto under a door.

"The only documents we slip under doors are our manifesto to make Cape Town safer and more affordable for all. No Madlanga subpoenas aseblief tog," the caption read.

James accused of receiving information under her door

The post was a direct reference to testimony delivered at the Madlanga Commission by Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) State Advocate Drushantha Ramsamy. Ramsamy told the commission that IDAC investigators, including chief investigator Dylan Perumal, alleged that James had also received information or documents passed under her Parliamentary office door.

Ramsamy further stated that James was expected to meet with IDAC to provide evidence relating to alleged purchases of properties using Crime Intelligence covert funds, but that she never attended the IDAC offices and did not respond to Perumal's calls.

James has rejected the allegations in full. She maintains that she never received any classified documents under her door or from any other source, pointing out that her office floor has controlled access and CCTV surveillance.

She said her involvement stemmed solely from a publicly available News24 article about a Crime Intelligence hotel purchase, which prompted her to call for an IPID investigation. She has formally requested that the South African Police Service review the Parliamentary CCTV footage to verify her account.
