SOUTH AFRICA — A video of a taxi marshal attempting to remove a woman from her own private car has gone viral on social media. This occurred less than two days after an incident in Ekurhuleni in which a marshal demanded motorists to get out of their car ignited debate about the conduct of transport enforcement personnel on South African roads.
The footage was shared on X by user Siphumelele Zondion on 2 September 2026 and shows a roadside confrontation filmed from inside the stationary vehicle. A caption overlaid on the clip reads: "Taxi Marshall stops a lady from using her own transport. 2 Sep 2026."
Confrontation caught on camera
In the video, a man wearing a high-visibility safety vest is seen arguing through the open driver's-side door with the female occupant. A second passenger is also visible inside the vehicle.

The woman insists she has the right to use her own transport, repeatedly stating:
"I have my own car."
The woman can be heard labelling his behaviour in response to her assertions as harassment, saying:
"That's harassment. That's harassment."
The marshal disputes her characterisation and continues to engage aggressively.
Towards the end of the clip, the man makes a physical attempt to remove the woman from the vehicle. She pushes him back and tries to close the car door.
Incident draws online attention
The video, originally posted by TikTok account @newsnexussa, had circulated widely across platforms by the time of publication. The conduct shown in the footage raised questions about the authority and mandate of taxi marshals, who are generally responsible for managing queues and passenger flow at taxi ranks rather than policing private vehicle use.
