SOUTH AFRICA - South Africans celebrating Heritage Day on Thursday, 24 September 2026, can expect partly cloudy and warm conditions in many parts of the country.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) said isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible over the central and eastern parts of South Africa.

Heritage Day weather warnings

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected in the Musina and Thulamela municipalities in Limpopo on Thursday.

Residents in affected areas are urged to remain cautious, particularly where dry conditions could increase the risk of runaway fires.

Gauteng: Partly cloudy and warm conditions are expected, with a high UVB sunburn index. Residents should take precautions against prolonged sun exposure.

Mpumalanga: Morning fog patches are expected in some southern areas. The province will otherwise be partly cloudy and cool, becoming warm in the Lowveld. Isolated showers and thundershowers are possible in the afternoon.

Limpopo: Conditions will be partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers possible in the southern and central parts.

North West: Residents can expect fine and warm weather.

Free State: The province will be partly cloudy and warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers possible in the south and along the Lesotho border.

Northern Cape: The western and southern parts will be partly cloudy, with isolated showers and thundershowers. Other areas will be fine and cool to warm, while the northern parts could be hot.

Eastern Cape: The western half will be cloudy with fog in places and light rain along the coast and nearby interior in the morning. The eastern half will be partly cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers.

KwaZulu-Natal: Morning fog patches are expected over the interior. The province will otherwise be partly cloudy and warm before becoming cloudy in the afternoon, with isolated showers and thundershowers.
