A football fan who racially abused Nicolas Jackson will have to spend a considerable amount of time away from football following the conclusion of the case.

John Southwell was given a three-year ban after he was found guilty of sending offensive messages to the Chelsea striker last year.

Football fan gets three-year ban

Southwell is said to have made the comment on Facebook under a news article about the Senegalese striker. The article was about an incident Jackson had been involved in a day earlier during Chelsea's loss to Everton.

As Sky Sports reports, the 64-year-old was identified and charged with sending an offensive message via a public communication network.

While appearing at the Blackburn Magistrates Court, Southwell admitted to the charges. In addition to the ban, he was fined £385.

Jackson has started the season on fire under new manager Enzo Maresca. The 23-year-old has four goals and three assists in the Premier League, helping the Blues ascend into the top four after seven games played. They have a tricky trip to Anfield next weekend when club action resumes.

He also got his first international goal when he scored in Senegal's 4-0 win over Malawi in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match.

At the same time, Briefly News had earlier reported that Jackson could be in trouble himself after video replays showed his slapping Morato.

The incident happened during the heated game against Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge. The melee started with Neco Williams pushing Marc Cucurella, who in turn fell into Maresca, sparking a conformation between the two sides.

Jackson had already been substituted but stepped onto the pitch as the game threatened to get out of control.
