The qualifying period for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations officially came to an end on November 19 after the final whistle in the Senegal vs Burundi game.
23 teams, alongside the hosts Morocco, confirmed their place in next year's tournament, 10 months after the 2023 final pitting Ivory Coast against Nigeria.
When and where is the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations?
The 35th edition of AFCON will take place across six cities of Morocco from December 21 2025 to January 18 2026. The tournament was initially slated for June/July, but the inaugural new-format FIFA Club World Cup will be taking place at the same time.

Who are the biggest names that will miss AFCON 2025?
One name - Ghana. The four-time champions failed to win any of their six games, finishing last in Group F. It would be fair to say it has been a long time coming, given their performances in the last two editions, but failing to qualify completely was a new low for the West African giants.
Closer to home, Harambee Stars failed to qualify while their neighbours and co-hosts for AFCON 2027, Uganda and Tanzania, qualified.

Who are the favourites to win AFCON 2025?
December next year is still a long way to go, but on the face of it, Morocco will be under immense pressure to deliver on home soil. For all they have achieved in recent times, including top-four finishes in the World Cup and Olympics, the North Africans only have one title to their name.
Nigeria will also be looking to make amends and go one step better than in AFCON 2023. Other perennial heavyweights like Senegal, Algeria and defending champions Ivory Coast will also have a thing or two to say.
