Orlando Pirates secure Amstel sponsorship deal in legacy-focused partnership

AmaZulu begin their campaign at home against newly promoted Orbit College, who have made it clear they won’t be here to make up the numbers. Usuthu retained much of their experienced core and added depth to the midfield, while Orbit will rely on youthful energy and benefit from the services of Orlando Pirates loanee Monnapule Saleng.

“This is a trap game for AmaZulu. Orbit will press high and play without fear, but AmaZulu’s experience in managing games should see them control the tempo. If Usuthu impose themselves early, they’ll avoid an upset.”

Chippa United vs Mamelodi Sundowns

Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, Gqeberha – 15:00

Defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns start their title defence without star striker Peter Shalulile, who is on the verge of joining ES Tunis, and with uncertainty over Lucas Ribeiro after a dream debut season that brought him multiple awards, including Goal of the Tournament at the FIFA Club World Cup.

The Brazilians will look to Iqram Rayners and Brazilian forward Arthur Sales to lead the line.

“Sundowns might actually lose two match-winners, but their system is built to adapt. Rayners and Sales are ready-made replacements, and Sundowns’ ability to dominate possession will test Chippa’s defensive discipline.”

Polokwane City vs Magesi FC

Old Peter Mokaba Stadium, Polokwane – 15:00

The Limpopo derby pits two sides with plenty to prove. Magesi, led again by Owen da Gama, have been aggressive in the transfer market, while Polokwane City will rely on home advantage and derby pride.

“Magesi’s recruitment shows they mean business. But derbies are about control and composure, and Polokwane have that in their spine. Whoever wins the midfield battle will take the points," Bafana said.

Richards Bay vs Marumo Gallants

King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium, Durban – 15:00

Richards Bay are determined to avoid last season’s relegation scrap, while Gallants return to the Premiership with a balanced squad. Both sides favour counter-attacking football, setting the stage for a cagey affair.

“This will be a game of patience. The first goal will be decisive, neither team wants to chase the game too early," Bafana stressed.

Orlando Pirates vs Sekhukhune United

Orlando Stadium, Soweto – 17:30

Pirates, fresh from an MTN8 win over Polokwane City last weekend, welcome attacking livewire Oswin Appollis from Polokwane, who scored on debut against his former club. Midfielder Sipho Mbule is also tipped to be pivotal this season.

“Pirates look sharper than they did at the same stage last season. Appollis adds unpredictability, and Mbule can dictate the tempo. But Sekhukhune are organised and ruthless in transition, they won’t come to Orlando to roll over," Bafana said.

Siwelele vs Golden Arrows

Dr Molemela Stadium, Bloemfontein – 20:00

The new-look Siwelele FC, who purchased SuperSport United’s PSL status for R50 million, mark their top-flight return under coach Lehlohonolo Seema, leaning heavily on the former SuperSport academy pipeline. Their passionate fan base is expected to make Bloemfontein an intimidating venue once again.

“This is more than just a game, it’s the rebirth of a footballing identity in Bloemfontein. Arrows are dangerous on the counter, but if Siwelele settle early and use the crowd’s energy, they can start with a statement win," Bafana said.

Orlando Pirates secure midfielder signing ahead of Chiefs

Briefly News previously reported that Orlando Pirates have successfully signed a South African midfielder who was also on Kaizer Chiefs’ radar ahead of the upcoming season.

The Buccaneers had been closely tracking the player’s progress since last season, competing with the Glamour Boys for his signature.
