Sundowns Star Warns of Tough Test Against Former Club Stellenbosch at Athlone Stadium

Bafana Bafana striker Iqraam Rayners has confirmed that his former team, Stellenbosch FC, will present a tough challenge at Athlone Stadium when Mamelodi Sundowns face them this weekend.

The South African international left the Stellies last summer for the Brazilians in a major transfer deal in the Betway Premiership.

The striker has gone on to be one of the important players for the Pretorian giants, but he has not fully found his form this season.

Miguel Cardoso's side have struggled in most of their matches at the start of this season, except the game against Richards Bay in the MTN8 quarter-final, where they thrashed the Natal Rich Boys.

Rayners speaks ahead of facing his ex-club

Ahead of Sundowns' tough test against Stellenbosch FC, Rayners admitted his former side would come into the tie with full confidence that they can secure all three points as they've been in good form this season.

“Stellenbosch are coming into this match full of confidence, they’re in the cup final and recently secured a win,” Rayners said.

“It’ll be a tough game because they have the hunger and determination to win, but we’re ready for whatever challenges come our way.”

“For us, staying focused and disciplined is key. We need to get a positive result as a team. It won’t be easy, so we must keep pushing and stay united on the field. If we can take control and dominate in the first half, it will be hard for them to stage a comeback.”
