Rayners speaks ahead of facing his ex-club

Ahead of Sundowns' tough test against Stellenbosch FC, Rayners admitted his former side would come into the tie with full confidence that they can secure all three points, as they have been in good form this season.

“Stellenbosch are coming into this match full of confidence, they’re in the cup final and recently secured a win,” Rayners said.
“It’ll be a tough game because they have the hunger and determination to win, but we’re ready for whatever challenges may come our way.”

The South African international also disclosed how Mamelodi Sundowns can get all three points against his former employers despite them not being in top form this season so far.

“For us, staying focused and disciplined is key. We need to get a positive result as a team. It won’t be easy, so we must keep pushing and stay united on the field. If we control and dominate the first half, it will be hard for them to come back.”

A win for Mamelodi Sundowns would move them up the league table, with Kaizer Chiefs and Sekhukhune United also playing on Saturday, August 30, 2025.

Rayners slams PSL after awards snub

Rayners was not happy when he was snubbed for the Premier Soccer League best player of the season award despite his performance for Sundowns last campaign, as previously reported by Briefly News.

The former Stellenbosch FC star had the most goals in the league, and he was second to Lucas Ribeiro, but missed out on the nomination.

In all competitions last season, Rayners scored 24 goals and also assisted nine times, with 14 goals and all the assists coming in the Betway Premiership.
