In an exclusive chat with Briefly News, football analyst Brighton Bafana said the weekend could prove “a defining moment in the early title race,” stressing that momentum gained now will carry weight later in the season.

Chiefs aim to keep pressure at the summit

Kaizer Chiefs head into their clash against Golden Arrows at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban unbeaten so far, with three wins and a draw from their opening four games.

Bafana noted that Chiefs’ consistency has “surprised many who expected Pirates to be the Soweto giants leading the charge,” but warned that maintaining defensive discipline will be crucial.

Sundowns seek rhythm after a slow start

Despite being favourites to defend their crown, Sundowns have been sluggish after their Club World Cup commitments, recording two wins and two draws.

Bafana pointed out that the Brazilians’ depth means “it is only a matter of time before they shift gears,” but added that Stellenbosch FC will be eager to cause an upset at Athlone Stadium on Saturday.

Pirates desperate to find form

Orlando Pirates travel to Gqeberha for a clash against Chippa United at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Sunday.

With two defeats already, the Buccaneers cannot afford further setbacks. According to Bafana, Pirates “have the talent but lack sharpness in front of goal,” and this weekend could determine whether they re-enter the title conversation before the break.
