Wandile Duba, a key player for Kaizer Chiefs, has revealed that he is receiving death threats. The prolific forward has been instrumental in Chiefs’ charge this season, which has seen them go five games unbeaten since the start of the season.

In his four appearances for Amakhosi this 2025–26 season, Duba has registered an assist but has yet to score a goal. He spoke about the brutal criticism he has faced, some of which has even led to threats against his life.

Last season, he inspired the Glamour Boys to end their ten-year drought by helping the club clinch the Nedbank Cup with a 2–1 win over Betway Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns. His form saw him score five goals and contribute three assists in 25 games.

A product of Chiefs’ development side, Duba spoke on the sidelines of the Nedbank multipurpose court handover at Phulong Secondary School in Kwa-Thema, Springs, on Wednesday, 3 September. He said criticism doesn’t faze him, even when some fans label him a malicious player.

What did Duba say?

“Being criticised is part of the job. If you do well, they talk, and if you do badly, they still talk. So I just need to focus on what I do best,” Duba said.

As seen in the tweet below:

“It doesn’t affect me; it’s the threats that are worrying. In the last game against Golden Arrows, I wasn’t in the right state of mind, so I didn’t even go to play. These things don’t frustrate me too much, so I usually just talk to my brother, and he guides me. At times, I feel like sending a text back after getting a negative comment or someone swearing at me.”

What are some of the critics saying about Duba?

Some of the criticism has been rife on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter):

@Tea_bagZA:

“Wandile Duba is one hell of a dirty and disgusting player. There’s a difference between passion and anger.”

@Benzo_Ndlovu:

“Wandile Duba is a dirty player yerrr. I’m sure he has more yellow cards than career goals!”

Amakhosi have accumulated 18 yellow cards since the start of the season, more than any other club. This highlights the team’s disciplinary struggles rather than the actions of any one player, though Duba has clearly become a scapegoat in the criticism.

After the international break, Amakhosi, who are second on the log with 13 points, will face another in-form side, early log leaders Sekhukhune United, in a top-of-the-table clash that promises fireworks.
